Town of Windermere FL

Windermere
Homes For Sale

The Town of Windermere is full of olde world charm and elegance. Surrounded by sand bottom lakes, Windermere has become a highly desirable place to live, work, and play.

The downtown area of Windermere has been designated as the Commercial Business District of the Town of Windermere. This area is bounded by Forest St to the north, 4th Street to the east, Oakland St to the south, and 7th Street to the west. Many outlying areas stake claim to the Windermere name, but only businesses in this geographic area are authentic and licensed Town of Windermere businesses.

Windermere was named after England’s famous Lake Windermere by Dr. Stanley Scott, whose father purchased 160 acres of land back in 1885. Dr. Scott later built his home on the shores of Lake Butler.

The Town Hall stands as a monument to Dr. Scott. The historic building serves as a meeting hall, polling place, and venue for social events.

The town does not measure its success or growth by numbers, but rather by how well it protects its natural resources. The Butler Chain of Lakes is the main attraction that draws many to call this small town of mainly dirt streets and majestic sceneries home.

In keeping with this preservatory nature, the Town maintains a no-frills approach to development and expansion. The Town Council, with input from the Town administration, the Development Review Board, and the Downtown Business Committee, ensures that businesses comply with all regulations, which are in place to protect this lakeside community.

Windermere is also home to many notable residents, including famous sports personalities, recording artists, military heroes, and captains of industry.

Businesses in downtown Windermere may choose to be a part of the West Orange Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber also has member businesses from Ocoee, Winter Garden, Gotha, and Orlando.
